ABOUT DR. MARIA HOLMES

Educator, Community Leader, Volunteer

Dr. Maria Holmes was born in Memphis, Tennessee, and attended The University of

Memphis alongside her high school sweetheart, Frank. Their career moves led them to
settle in Houston for 15 years and eventually relocate to Huntsville, Texas, where both
worked in higher education administration at Sam Houston State University.


Driven by a lifelong passion for education, Dr. Holmes earned both a Master’s and a
Doctorate in Education. Her academic dedication led her to a distinguished career at Sam
Houston State University, where she served as Associate Dean of the Elliott T. Bowers
Honors College. She remains committed to higher education, serving as an adjunct
faculty member at SHSU’s Academic Success Center.


For 10 years, Dr. Holmes and her husband have remained actively involved in the
Chamber of Commerce and community non profits. She served as President of The
Woodlands Arts Council and has been recognized with multiple awards for her service
with numerous organizations. A dedicated member of Trinity Episcopal Church of the
Woodlands, she served on its Day School Board of Directors and as a Vestry member.
She and her husband are proud parents of two children and grandparents to five.


Dr. Holmes is seeking election to The Woodlands Township Board of Directors to bring
her wealth of leadership experience with deep community roots to public service. She is
committed to preserving what makes The Woodlands outstanding, from ensuring public
safety to promoting responsible economic development and protecting the natural
beauty that is the lasting legacy of George Mitchell. She humbly asks for your support
this November 4, 2025.
